If you're a Microsoft Word user, I'm sure you've been through the endless series of pop up advertisements that appear at the bottom of each page in every comic strip. There's always an ad with some sort of funny scenario for you to solve. For example, your job as an office junior employee is to sort out all the Christmas cards that will be coming in. And since there is no way you're ever going to remember all the strips, it just sort of becomes a repetitive exercise in formulating a solution to an impossible problem. It's not that the ads are bad _ they're written in such a captivating and whimsical way that they appeal to our sense of humor.

Sometimes they are amusing, but more often than not, they contain a touch of adult humor. You have probably experienced this yourself when you have seen a website that had a selection of odd adult cartoons. If it's too much and you find yourself cringing every time the ad appears, then perhaps you should think twice about having it installed in your MS Word application. Or maybe you can get rid of it entirely.

What if you don't like strips? Perhaps, you like news articles, or celebrity interviews _ anything fun and interesting. In fact, Microsoft Word is a fun writing tool, and if you're into word_creation applications, you've probably come across dozens of examples of cool scrapbooks you can make with its powerful tools. But there's nothing quite like a good old_fashioned strip to kill your creativity dead and leave you staring blankly at the blank screen. A good example of a strip that you can use in MS Word would be _ "Life is Good".

It's a simple strip, in fact, that contains nothing but a list of quotes from famous people. You can put the strip at the top of the file, or at the bottom. Either way, you'll find that it'll immediately become boring and repetitive. To save yourself the trouble, try making a list of your own instead _ it'll be more fun this way, and it'll also serve as a helpful exercise. After all, we all have habits that hold us back from being creative.

One of the ways to help your brain to cope with those habits is to imagine yourself reading the comic strip during the writing process. Think of how the words are spoken, and how they would look written. If you do this for five minutes a day, you'll notice a definite improvement in your ability to draw out sentences and ideas. After a few weeks, you'll find that your new_fangled mind is already straining to catch up with the thinking world around you. It's quite possible that your ideas will be far more original after the habit has started, so go for at least five minutes each day.

If you're using an adware program to track where your advertisements are appearing online, all you have to do is install the adware_blocking software that's already included on Microsoft Word. Then, you can keep a list on your desktop (you can also use a PDF file if you'd rather not print the list out) and check it regularly to see which sites are showing ads. The more frequently you see ads, the more they're hurting your productivity _ so remove them as often as you can. After a while, you'll be able to identify which of your many computer programs are causing you to lose time, and the ones you should discard or move to another program.

Don't forget that the comic strip is a favorite pastime for a lot of people, too. You could make a page dedicated simply to posting strips. If you keep the strip updated, it'll keep you company and entertained for hours. Make sure that you've also set up a way to hide the ads that Microsoft Word places on your page. For example, you can create a fake version of the ad that loads automatically when you open the document _ and hide the real ad from sight whenever you want.

It may be easy to make the leap and throw away Microsoft Word, but you'll be depriving yourself of one of the most efficient ways to spend your time. Chances are, your co_workers and friends use Word, too. Why not use the tool to your advantage? It's certainly easier than going out and getting an actual printer.
