However, since each situation is different, your personalized template should also be different. What may be acceptable in your work environment may not be acceptable in a client's working environment.

You should take note though that there are some things that are considered in a sample recommendation letter. First, your thoughts on the candidate should be expressed. Don't just state your opinion. Second, it's important to mention how you got along with your co_worker. You should include specific details that paint a clear picture of how you worked together. And lastly, the way you ended the relationship should also be mentioned.

Once you have found a sample letter, read through it and get a feel of how it would feel to have someone recommend you for an interview. For instance, the tone of the letter should show that the writer is interviewing you. If he doesn't do this, it could be that he's just passing your letter along to another colleague without the need to interview you. Remember that your letters of recommendation are your opportunity to show your potential employers how much you are capable of.

Don't just copy any sample that you find. It's necessary that you customize it to your needs. Remember that your sample should speak to your possible employer in a personal and professional way. If you make it too general, you might end up sending the candidate off for an interview instead.

Be sincere in your recommendations. Your recommendations aren't there to sell yourself. The receiver needs to know that you really believe in the candidate's capabilities and that you are confident in his abilities. Furthermore, the reader shouldn't know that you don't think highly of the person in question. You should always take the attitude that your letters of recommendations are only there to help that individual to find a better position.

In your recommendations, tell the reader what made you decide to write a letter. How will they benefit from hiring the person? What do you expect from him or her? How well do you know this person? Think carefully about these things before you fill out your recommendations.

When you format your recommendations, it's also important to mention where you saw the person in question to perform or who you want to hire. If you're targeting a job, you might want to mention the department or specific individual that the candidate is best suited for. However, if you're targeting a position that doesn't exist yet, you might want to just include general information about that person's background or experience. This is how the recommendations will prove useful to the employer.

Lastly, don't forget to thank the person for their time. You don't want the recommendation to come across as you're thanking them for not taking you up on an offer. You need to let the receiver know that you both are grateful for his or her time and help. By doing so, you will make a good impression on the person you are recommending and he or she might be inspired to apply at your company.
