How many thank you note format interviews have you seen in your life? For me, I've seen a few. Some were successful; some failed. No matter how you slice it, thank you note format interviews are hard to do. I'll give you some tips on how to avoid disaster. So, let's move on.
First off, the thank you note format interview is asking for insight, expertise and passion of the candidate. It is a direct contact with the employer. The recruiters want to know what drives a candidate to be at their company. In this competitive marketing climate, employers want someone that can take their business to a new level and stay there. So, in order to get their attention, you have to show them why you're worth the job.
How are you going to demonstrate these skills and passion? The thank you note interview is about you. Your ability to provide value and excellence to your customer, coach, colleague, or organization will stand out. Your ability to demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate, engage and improve will garner interest.
How did you learn your skills, deliver excellence? One: Being a customer service professional for three years and having the desire to apply those skills to a new setting. Two: Being invited to an interview and having the ability to do better than expected. Three: Being hired for the job.
In the thank you note interview, you have to first introduce yourself. Tell them who you are, how you heard about the job, where you are from, and how long you have been employed with your current company. Also tell them why you think you are qualified to do the position they are hiring for and how your experience and accomplishments would be beneficial to them. Share three or four of your best qualities that would benefit them and then share why you are excited to be working for their company.
Now that you have introduced yourself, it is time to talk about your qualifications and achievements. You have to tell them in detail why you believe you would be best for the position. Share three or four benefits that you can offer and why you think that you would be the best for the position. For example, if they are hiring a Diversity Associate for their Human Resources Department, explain how you are excited about being a racist. Explain why you saw the light at the end of the tunnel and how that can help the company achieve greater success in diversity and cultural awareness.
In the second episode, you will show the interviewer how you have used YouTube to improve your life and how this YouTube strategy is benefiting you and your company. Share three or four minutes of footage from when you were in London, Australia and how this city and its people have changed your life. Make sure to end your thank you note with a personal message to let them know exactly how much you appreciated their time. As an added extra, include the link to your YouTube account so they can follow the videos.
The third and final part of your thank you note will be about why you would love to work for their company. Again, tell them why you think you would be good at the job they are advertising for. This can be in the form of a specific example, something that has impacted your life in a positive way or a general statement about your overall personality and experience.
